There are millions of sites out there. Search engines are aimed at helping Internet users get the best search results. Yet, the problem is that they find too much information. Continue reading to learn how to get the best search results and find exactly what you're looking for. So how do search engines work?

Search engines make a data bank of websites by sending "spiders" or "robots" that crawl through the Web, going from link to link. Once they get to a site, they index most words available. The engine scans its data bank of websites to match your keywords to those same keywords in pages in the database. Basic search recommendations Search results can be easily improved.

All you need to know are some fundamentals. Some search engines have step-by-step guides to do this but for others you have to enter proper commands. The following basic commands should be enough for most users and should be effective for most of the major search engines. - Specify what you're seeking The more specific you are, the more information you'll find. Tell the search engine exactly what you're looking for. Fir instance, if you're searching for science experiments, enter School Science Fair Projects rather of science projects. If you know it's a chemistry experiment, add the word 'chemistry' to your search. - The + symbol The most important terms in your search should be put first.

To ensure the search engine finds pages containing all the words you're seeking, use the + symbol in front of each word. For example, if you're looking for info on Angelina Jolie and Bred Pitt, then enter +Jolie +Pitt. Only pages which contain both words will be found. - The - symbol If you're looking for something specific but don't need tons of other irrelevant information, use the - symbol. For example, if you're searching for information on Rafael Nadal but don't want to read about his sports career, enter Rafael Nadal -Pro -Tennis Player. - Using quotation marks When you put your search terms in quotation marks, it's called a "phrase search." The search engine will give you a list of pages that have the words in the exact order as in quotations. Fir instance, if you're searching specifically for a biography on Aishwarya Rai, enter "Aishwarya Rai Biography". - Boolean operators Boolean operators can be used in most major search engines when they allow some kind of advanced searching options.

The most popular booleans are AND, OR and NOT. Boolean operators are a lot like the + and - symbols. AND means "include all of the words," OR means "include any of the words" and NOT means "exclude." For example, if you're seeking information on music and dancing enter music AND dancing. Only pages that have both words will be on the list.
